THESE SUMMER BOOKS AREN’T YOUR AVERAGE BEACH READS

Summer is the perfect time for catching up on want-to-reads but that doesn’t mean you should stick with those breezy novels that scream “beach read” (though indulging every now and then is expected). The process of reading is not only mentally stimulating, but essential in getting inspired. For me it’s not a way to “get lost” but rather take my mind off autopilot in order to expand my horizons. Instead of a normal beach read, there are novels out there with complex and interesting plots, not to mention reads that explain the way our planet, our minds and our bodies work too.
Those of us who read constantly know deep down that our friends would too if they only had the right books set out in front of them – searching for great reads can become such a task if you don’t know where to begin. Well, today I did the work for you. Why not look through a few more book lists and new releases to see what else is out there? There’s a lot on this list so don’t be afraid to pick one of these up if it jumps out – even if it’s not something you’d normally go for.
Summer Book List | MichellePhan.com
To Explain the World by Steven Weinberg – In his latest, physicist and author Steven Weinberg takes us through ancient and medieval times to uncover the history and evolution of modern science. It’s not just about the fact that science plays such an important role in our world, but why and how we choose to discover it.
The Secret Wisdom of the Earth by Christopher Scotton – This novel is sure to take you through a wave of emotions with an intense story line involving the main character Kevin looking back at a traumatic childhood experience and his spectacular journey in the mysterious mountains his town is threatening to destroy. It will have you looking back on your own memories, thinking about what it’s like to witness epic events at a young age.
Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee – If To Kill a Mockingbird holds a special place in your heart, you have to preorder your copy of this recently discovered early work of Lee’s, originally written in the 50s before To Kill a Mockingbird. If that wasn’t enough, it features the same characters returning to Maycomb later in life.
It’s What I Do by Lynsey Addario – War photographer Lynsey Addario has led a life that most of us would never, ever consider – she’s witnessed the atrocities of war and documented them for others. She uncovers how photographing these events and more importantly the people – is her true calling, giving her own life purpose. You’re bound to hear many unnerving stories, but what you’ll be amazed by is one woman’s quest to discover and document the truth.
The Tibetan Yoga of Breath by Anyen Rinpoche – Tibetan Yantra Yoga, mindfulness practices, modern science and more all come together to teach healing, health and balance. And it all begins with the breath. These techniques help you achieve this vitality “down to the cellular level.” Intriguing much?
The Mountain Story by Lori Lansens – In this fictional story of a group of strangers stranded on a mountain – all there in the first place for very different purposes, including an attempted suicide – Lansens explores the power of human relationships and how quickly these characters form a life saving bond.
The Mindfulness Survival Kit by Thich Nhat Hanh Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh applies the 5 Mindfulness Trainings to modern life and asserts their necessary role today. He attempts to restore meaning, spirituality and morals with guidelines that everyone can appreciate and practice now.
The Sixth Extinction by Elizebeth Kolbert – Remember that time the dinosaurs went extinct? Yeah, that was the most recent of the last 5 mass extinctions, and Kolbert explains how we’re working on a 6th – and it’s bound to be the biggest mark humans leave on our planet. Through compelling scientific facts and the stories of animals already extinct or on the brink of extinction, the impact humans have on Earth becomes crystal clear.
Triggers by Marshall Goldsmith – This book is all about how to become who you really want to be. In it, you’ll discover what triggers cause you to act in a certain way. Goldsmith points out what amazing planners we all are – but when it comes to doing, not so much. Finally, you can enact real change in you life, not just dream of it.

3 SUMMER MANICURES TO TRY THIS MONTH

Is there anything better than a good summer mani? You can sport it at the beach, at the pool and out with friends, always conveying your summer spirit. It’s no secret that my mood is basically always bright colors and pastels, but there are so many candy colored nail polishes to choose from in the summer time. But hey – if a cotton candy color isn’t your thang, there’s a chic black and white one on here too. ;)
3 Summer Manicures to try This Month
Pastel French Manicure – You can do this as a colored French mani or divide your nails into two color blocks, whatever you want. First, choose two sorbet shades. Paint the lighter color first, let it dry completely, and with a steady hand, nail pen, or strip of tape (no shame in going the DIY route!) add your accent color. A creamy mint and bubblegum pink look adorable, but a color like Orly’sAdrenaline Rush from their summer 2015 line is one to consider if you want to forgo pink.
Fruit Nails - Is there anything cuter than fruit nails? We used nail stickers ( you can shop them at Ebay.com & use Ebay discount code ) but if you are savvy with nail art, go ahead and free hand ‘em. Our base of choice? Powder pink, but any solid color that let’s the fruit pop works well. It’s easy to experiment with this one!

Negative Space - With a crisp white as the base, this negative space manicure is perfect to pair with your daring swimsuit – especially if it’s black, white, or gold, or even a solid neon shade. To get this look, paint your base, then create the stripes with a precision nail pen.

5 FAVORITES: MAKEUP ARTISTS WHO ARE BREAKING ALL THE RULES

You know that for me, makeup has long been a way to express my artistry. I’m an artist at heart and whether it’s a simple barely-there beauty look or a complete transformation, a face is the ultimate canvas. Just like any other art, makeup artistry comes in infinite shapes and sizes. There is no one way to do it. Of course, there are always some rules – like what colors go together or how much is too much. What I like about these five artists is that they throw caution to the wind when it comes to their art. They know the rules so well that they can break them, and the result is magical. Some of these examples may seem a bit out there – but they all represent the beauty of breaking the rules every now and then!Photo by Jamie Nelson

1. Lottie – Not only has she worked in the fashion industry on countless widely recognized editorials and created gorgeous beauty looks for tons of celebs, she is a pro when it comes to injecting color into a scene. Her creative work illustrates that color knows no bounds. Riddled with glitter and unlikely combinations, the creative beauty editorials on her website are simply mesmerizing.

2. Erika Marie – Body paint is a crazy art, and Scotland-based Erika Marie (who is also a makeup artist for MAC) is brilliant at it. She created the look above with the Make Up Forever Flash Paletteon herself, inspired by a painting, and is also an expert at unexpected eye looks (like this one). Honestly, her Instagram says it all!

3. Kiki Makeup – Kiki’s Instagram is completely enchanting and a little spooky. She truly creates art with every detail, but especially the eyes. Looking through her feed, you will find anything from apizza illustration done on eyelids to shimmering explosions of metallic. This makeup artist really shows how much creativity and expression can be packed into the tiniest of spaces.

4. Lynda Hallberg – A big beauty blogger in Scandinavia, Swedish makeup artist Lynda Hallberg isn’t afraid to combine opposites: edgy and delicate, bold and subdued – they all come together in perfect harmony. The prismatic purple hues in the above look are gorgeous, but there’s an endless feed of inspiration over at her blog.

5. Pati Dubroff may be the most widely recognized of the makeup artists on this list, given that she’s worked with just about every top fashion photographer and has an extensive list of editorials and covers under her belt. If you think of a few of your faves, chances are she was behind one of them. But she isn’t your average celebrity makeup artist: Dubroff is the talent behind many daring looks (like Miley Cyrus’ shocking June editorial in Paper). Whether it be an artistic editorial or classic red carpet look, Dubroff plays by her own rules. She even took a stand against extreme contouringearlier this year – despite receiving backlash from supporters of this major trend.

THE PERFECT SUNGLASSES FOR YOUR FACE SHAPE

There are two kinds of glasses-wearers in this world: those who swear by one pair and would never stray, and those who collect sunnies like they’re going out of style! No matter which category you fall into, it helps to know which ones flatter you and you style, and which – to put it simply – don’t. If you know what works best for your face shape, shopping gets so much easier. If you don’t already know, determine your face shape, then use this fun guide next time you’re on the hunt for a new pair.
Sunglasses for your face shape
Oval. You may have heard this before, and it’s true – oval faces can get away with most styles, because there’s no need to worry about accentuating too strong or soft of features. But with that comes the desire to go bolder with accessories. Both perfectly circle frames and retro cat-eye glasses will make your face stand out. Enjoy 20% - 90% OFF + FREE Shipping Every Day On Daily Deals at eBay. Items included: clothing, shoes, jewelry, watches, electronics and more! No code required! Get Ebay Discounts and more Ebay discount code, Ebay redemption code now! Click here
Square. For a square shape, you don’t want to go with anything too rectangular or square. Rounded specs with thin frames or aviator styles will soften angular features and elongate your face. Like I talked about in my eyeglasses video from way back when, a fantastic rule for face shapes is that generally the stronger/more pronounced your facial features are, the softer you’ll want your glasses to be and vice versa.
Round. So, with a round face shape, you want to avoid anything too round in order to complement your features. Rectangle or wayfarer sunglasses like TOMS Beachmaster sunnies can help balance your look while oversized square and hexagonal sunglasses make more of a statement.
Heart. The only rule with heart shaped faces is to make sure the look isn’t “too much” to pair with your strong jaw line and high cheek bones, especially if you have bangs. Glasses of any shape can look amazing, but rimless or partially rimless pairs like these cool semi-rimmed round glasses or cat-eye club masters will flatter any heart shaped face.
Diamond. Like ovals, diamond shapes often can get away with different types of glasses, though they should to keep in mind prominent facial features like a strong jaw. Wayfarer glasses with thick rims and even cute heart shaped glasses will make your peepers pop if you are of a diamond face shape.
Like I said, this is only a guide – you never truly know what look suits you best until you experiment with a few different styles!
Do you have any personal rules you swear by when shopping for sunnies? Let me know below!

Summer Work Outfits—That Are Actually Cute!

Prints That Go From Day To Night

A printed skirt and T-shirt make for a great outfit option for more casual office environments this summer. Shop this skirt and t-shirt at Ebay.com. Get Ebay coupon codes at Coupon4share and get up to 90% OFF On Daily Deals Event + FREE Shipping! Save on thousands of products in different categories at eBay!

Opt for a printed skirt to keep morning dressing a breeze, and add or remove jewelry as your plans evolve. It's social-butterfly-approved!

Get "Day to Night" Just Right

Whether printed or solid, a kicky little number that leaves room for tons of styling variation is your best friend when it comes to transitional dressing. Belt it, cuff the sleeves, add heels, or stick with flats. Find your go-to, go-anywhere piece and you're set for the season!

Dress for Success

Just because your office look needs to err on the side of conservative doesn't mean it can't work after-hours as well. Layer like a pro and use a sweater or collar and cuffs to add a bit of bright summery color.

The Hot-Weather Work Look

Sometimes it can feel like it's too hot to wear anything at all. We get it. On days like this, tank tops are allowed—just make sure they aren't too strappy or low-cut. Balance out the skin-baring top with a midlength skirt and chunky-heeled sandals. And carry a cardigan, just in case.

The Sexy Vest Look

Yes, vests can be corporate and sexy at the same time. Call it modern summer suiting—its borrowed-from-the boys roots also works well for cool evenings out.

Try a New Silhouette

Bored of your classic black trousers? Try a slight twist on your old go-to. Reach for a pair of pants with a slight slouch or detail while still made of a fabric fit for a corporate environment (read: no cotton jersey). Tuck in a white silk shell and slip into a pair of your most polished heels and you're good to go!

Navy and Black

Pairing navy and black is an easy way to put a fun spin on office-appropriate dark hues. It's a color combo that's both understated (for work) and elegant (for evening).
